Stacking and Sorting

Stacking blocks and sorting shape require great concentration, thus helping your toddler to develop his thinking skills.
Blocks of different sizes, shapes, and colours are great for your toddler. Building a tower with blocks, and knocking it down again, is a sure-fire winner when it comes to keeping your toddler entertained. The more fun your toddler has with stacking and sorting games, the more he’ll want to do them. So join in with your toddler, and take it in turns to place a block. Then let your toddler have the satisfaction of demolishing the tower – ready to start all over again, of course!

Different-coloured rings of descending sizes on a pole is another toy that’s good for sorting by size and colour. Sorting things into simple categories, such as clothes or toys, allows your toddler to match an object to its purpose. It’s a sign that his understanding of the world and his place in it is developing.

Though learning about letters and numbers are a little way off for your toddler, fridge magnets may keep him happily occupied while you’re in the kitchen. Your toddler can sort alphabet magnets by colour or size, even if he doesn’t know what the letters mean.
